About course
Adult ECMO Fundamentals is an intensive, two-day provider course designed to
equip critical care practitioners with the technical skills and physiological
understanding required to manage Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
at the bedside as well as on the road.
Presented by ETA Medical, this course moves beyond the textbook, placing you
directly in front of the circuit. Through high-fidelity simulation and wet-lab workshops,
candidates will transition from understanding the theory of ECLS to mastering the
mechanics of the machine.
What You Will Master
- The Evidence Base: From the CESAR Trial to EOLIA and ECLS-SHOCK—
understand patient selection and when to initiate. - The Circuit: Hands-on priming and troubleshooting of different ECMO
machines - High-Fidelity Simulation: Develop “muscle memory” for critical emergencies.
Learn the “DAS Algorithm” (Detect-Announce-Solve) for managing Air
Embolism, Power Failure, Oxygenator Thrombosis, and Access Insufficiency. - Total Patient Management: A deep dive into Anticoagulation
(ACT/aPTT/TEG targets), Sedation sequestration, ventilation strategies, and
integrating Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) with ECMO.
Who Should Attend: Intensivists, Emergency Physicians, Surgeons, Perfusionists,
Pre-hospital Practitioners, and Critical Care Nurses seeking to formalize their ECLS
competency.
Included in the course package:
- Pre Course material
- 2 day in person training with hands on ECMO machine and high fidelity simulation training
- Post course test
- 15 CPD points
